Do you think I'm wrong? That your Warden Item is on the fritz? Wouldn't be the first time it's happened but that don't explain why a horsed sized Raptor didn't tear me limb from limb. No nips. No feralness. Tried to shove himself down the stairwell when I left him the first time, to the point where I was worried he'd hurt himself.

And there's more here than there was at Elsewhere, even though that wasn't a port.

[Raylan took a deep breath, unsure how this conversation was going to go all of a sudden, but too far in to retreat now.]

I hope that's not gonna be a problem. [He fully expected it to be, but he did hope that wasn't going to be the case.]

Are you defensive because you're treating him in a way I should be concerned about, or are you just from Earth too?

[He wouldn't call that defensive, but he didn't care for suggestion that he was treating James some kind of way that was inappropriate.]

Earth. Specifically the South. [It was one of those 'if you know, you know' situations.]

But you're welcome to ask James if he feels mistreated in any way. [In his experience, people who shouted from the rooftops that they didn't do one thing or another usually had, or had something worse to hide.]

France, maybe. They fight for their right to threesomes.

California too, I suppose. West Coast. Places where the bible and religious values aren't beaten over and shoved down everyone's throat.

[If Jedao wasn't James's Warden, Raylan would be a little more reluctant to answer, reluctant to open that part of the proverbial book, and he has to remind himself that they're theoretically on the same side.]

I take it you're not from Earth. Where are you from?

I live on a space station in the Stabglass March of the Compact. Formerly Hexarchate space.

France, California, bible. I'm iffy on religious, that's like...the foreign version of Calendrical Orthodoxy, right?

[Unlike Jedao One, Jedao Two is conscientious enough not to call people barbarians to their faces.]

Never heard of the Calendrical anythin' but 'Orthodoxy' is.. always religious suggestive. The folks that believe in God, the bible's the book they follow. France and California are beyond explanation. Experience only.

How are you and James gettin' along?

I like him. Even when he’s being very frustrating. He has a good heart.

Can I ask you why? I mean - I know why you went to see him. To ask why he killed Fitz. But why did you care?
