"I... I know," he says, ashamed. "About-- it being easy to say things when you're upset. Trying to hurt people with them. It makes sense."

"It's something a lot of people struggle with," Jedao says honestly. "And even most people who are good at not doing it sometimes slip up if they're really mad. It's pretty normal. But it's something you can practice not doing, and that helps the people you're mad at and you, too."

"Arthur definitely struggles with it," Edwin mutters, and then feels immediately ashamed of himself.

"He does, yes," Jedao agrees, somehow both very dryly and very gently.

There's a slight shift underneath Jedao's sweater, but it's Edwin settling in for his current third-favorite pastime: napping on people.

"I wonder if John ever did."

"Probably," Jedao muses. "I think it's the kind of thing everybody does at least once or twice. That's how you learn the cost of it."

He hums softly, idly. He's happy to be napped on.
