I couldn't, for the first few hours. Stroke of luck that I mentioned bein' worried about James and I just about got gently mauled when I said his name. It took a little guess work and a little leap of faith..

If I can go overboard, lose fifteen years off my face and become someone else all together.. Dinosaurs isn't that far of a jump, even if it's a weird as hell one.

[Says the boy who woke up 400 years in the future with an adult body, no memories, and secretly an alien. On the other hand, with a far-flung space empire that's long forgotten Earth, there were no dinosaur fossils to make it a standard childhood obsession.]

Do you think I'm wrong? That your Warden Item is on the fritz? Wouldn't be the first time it's happened but that don't explain why a horsed sized Raptor didn't tear me limb from limb. No nips. No feralness. Tried to shove himself down the stairwell when I left him the first time, to the point where I was worried he'd hurt himself.

That wasn't normal instinct.

Sure as shit never thought I'd be in a place where I was entertainin' the idea that anyone was a goddamned Dinosaur. Or that I'd be huntin' 'em. How're you finding Jurassic Park?

I like it.

[There's something small, something young to his voice. A quiet wonder that is almost as much for the trees as for the dinosaurs. Aside from the Enclosure, he's never been outside on a planet before.]

And there's more here than there was at Elsewhere, even though that wasn't a port.

[And at Elsewhere he also didn't appreciate it properly, thought it was normal.]

[Raylan took a deep breath, unsure how this conversation was going to go all of a sudden, but too far in to retreat now.]

Yeah. Yeah, me and James..

I hope that's not gonna be a problem. [He fully expected it to be, but he did hope that wasn't going to be the case.]

Are you defensive because you're treating him in a way I should be concerned about, or are you just from Earth too?

[He wouldn't call that defensive, but he didn't care for suggestion that he was treating James some kind of way that was inappropriate.]

Earth. Specifically the South. [It was one of those 'if you know, you know' situations.]

But you're welcome to ask James if he feels mistreated in any way. [In his experience, people who shouted from the rooftops that they didn't do one thing or another usually had, or had something worse to hide.]

France, maybe. They fight for their right to threesomes.

California too, I suppose. West Coast. Places where the bible and religious values aren't beaten over and shoved down everyone's throat.

[If Jedao wasn't James's Warden, Raylan would be a little more reluctant to answer, reluctant to open that part of the proverbial book, and he has to remind himself that they're theoretically on the same side.]

He's been staying with me since before the .. weird change of visitors. A handful of days before. We've only just recently made it.. official. [Stringing it all together, outloud, was new and hard. It shouldn't be a big deal. It still was.]

I take it you're not from Earth. Where are you from?

I live on a space station in the Stabglass March of the Compact. Formerly Hexarchate space.

France, California, bible. I'm iffy on religious, that's like...the foreign version of Calendrical Orthodoxy, right?

[Unlike Jedao One, Jedao Two is conscientious enough not to call people barbarians to their faces.]

Never heard of the Calendrical anythin' but 'Orthodoxy' is.. always religious suggestive. The folks that believe in God, the bible's the book they follow. France and California are beyond explanation. Experience only.
