I'm... not really sure why it went well. She called me really late at night, after the Breach. She was more patient than usual. She didn't get mad about everything I said. She asked me about a movie we talked about in the Breach. ...I had a fight with Eiffel, though. A bad one. Neal just fixed that and I broke it again.

What was the fight about?
[Normally Jedao would say something reassuring like he probably doesn't really hate you, but Malcolm does seem to bother Eiffel in a way nobody else does. Jedao isn't sure what 'hate' would even look like for him, or what qualifies, but he tries to never make people promises he doesn't know if he can keep.]
He told me about something Kikimora did to Allen. I thanked him for informing me and said I’d take care of it. He blew up at me for not having any feelings, just like he did at the Lestat meeting, which… I thought we resolved. So I asked what made him think that, because my problem is literally the opposite of that. He said I should have told him something soothing and that if I didn’t know how I could memorize some stock sympathetic phrases and use them in those situations. I thought it was kind of ironic that he was accusing me of being like a robot and his solution was to program to be more like a Real Boy.
Okay, with the caveat that I'm missing like, a full year of context here, and Eiffel's perspective, but it sounds like he was already pretty upset, felt like you weren't taking him seriously, and he was kind of a bitch to you, and it came out in the form of old resentments.
On the other hand, like. When people are upset with you, telling them that they're wrong about why they're upset, or their thing doesn't count, is pretty much always going to result in escalation.
I know you do get really overwhelmed and upset sometimes. Did you feel like that at the time?
I didn't tell him he had no good reason to be upset. I was confused more than anything else. I thought he was telling me my inmate did something to his inmate because he wanted it taken care of. And I said I would take care of it. I didn't feel upset until much later in the conversation when he started giving me lessons on masking.
Memorize some sympathetic sentences, so when someone tells me anything unpleasant, I guess, I can say a Stock Sentence from the Sympathy Sentence Pool that will make them think I have feelings.
